Waitsfield Shed
This 10x12’ shed was built for a friend who lives in a tiny house in need of extra space.
Blaine and I have been good friends since 2019. When it was time to build the first structure on my property, I was keen to work with him. Sometimes when you hire good friends, you lose out on professionalism and the work product suffers. That was not the case with Blaine. He walked me through many design choices we were making with the building and he tied those choices to costs so I could properly contextualize them. He was extremely thorough with the budget, keeping me up to date, and the project on target from both a cost and time perspective. And he provided a great blend of his own professional and craft opinion while also listening closely to my input.
As for the building itself, it's become more and more clear to me since having it and using it how outstanding it is. The joinery is tight and solid, made from beautiful wood cut skillfully by local sawyers. It's also pretty much bomb proof so if I ever need to move it, that will be no sweat, which was a criteria we considered. He took extra care to install roofing, flooring, and siding as tightly as possible which seemed like overkill at the time but now I recognize as a crucial step. In a world where a shed can be bought and delivered on a truck, it's been a real joy to build an attractive, high quality structure that brings an extra bit of dignity to my property -- local builder, local materials, made right the first time to stand the test of time.
In short, Blaine was great to work with and I'm looking forward to future projects together.
